Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso DOC Perusini

The Perusini winery is one of the few in Friuli Venezia Giulia which has rediscovered and reinforced the extraordiay Refosco dal penducolo rosso vine. This ancient and local wine , praised by Plinio, is the archetype of the black berry from Fiuli. The Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso wine is honored by the DOC certification with the Colli Orientali del Friuli denomination. It is produced with 100% Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso grapes cultivated in the San Biagio mountain in the Gramogliano hills all exposed at South-east. The cultivation method is  the single pruned guyot which is very effective in a reduced extended vineyard. The cultivation technique is the defoliation, followed by the trellis making and finally the overturning. The production is 6,5 tons per hectare. The fermentation takes place at  27°C. It occurs several batonnage during the maceration period  of 18 months with the “Ganimene” method  which is a particular pumping over process which considers both mechanical and human interventions. After the alcoholic fermentation the wine is put in stainless steel tanks for the malolactic fermentation and the half of the wine is aged in oak barrels for 6 months and finally is joined one more time.

Characteristics of the Refosco DOC "Del Peduncolo Rosso" wine

The Refosco dal peduncolo Rosso has an intense ruby red color almost impenetrable with purple reflections. The perfume is complex, elegant and very intense. It has some black cherry and prune aromas, intense and delicate with an additional black little dark fruits enriched by fern, musk, marasca cherry, tobacco, maple wood  and sweet spices fragrances. The taste is structured, wide, austere, with thick tannins with a sweet aroma. The aftertaste is long and macerate with currant, fig, cherry and cloves hints.

The game, red meats, roasted meats and middle and long aged cheeses are perfect matches for the Refosco DOC dal peduncolo rosso of the Perusini winery. This fantastic wine has to be served at 18°C in wide wine glasses to better appreciate the sweet and fruity fragrances.
