The history of this winery began more than two centuries ago, in 1807, in the heart of the Langhe. Taken over at the beginning of the twentieth century by Pietro Abbona, the Antiche Cantine proposed to combine tradition and modernity, offering high quality wines in line with the trends of Made in Italy, always respecting the heritage handed down in those territories. From the desire to preserve the typicality of the native vines and the knowledge of five generations, the Abbona family has created valuable productions, appreciated today all over the world: on this website you can find the Marchesi di Barolo labels, considered among the best Piedmontese wines, whose qualities recall the diversity of the vines from which they are born, grown on soils of marl, clays, sands and sands. Production techniques and organoleptic characteristics
From the vinification in purity of Nebbiolo and Barbera grapes are born the labels of the Marchesi winery of Barolo, obtained from a temperature controlled fermentation in thermo-conditioned tanks. Maceration on the skins takes about 8 days, with frequent pumping over to preserve the organoleptic characteristics, then the must is poured into vitrified cement vats made with cork insulation at a temperature of about 22 ºC. The aging continues in Slavonian oak barrels and barriques and is completed in the bottle. The taste is ruby red, with garnet hues, the aroma is intense and persistent, characterized by hints of red fruits and spicy notes, while the taste is full and enveloping, full-bodied, slightly acid.
The wines white Marchesi di Barolo mature in small and medium oak barrels and then refine their bouquet in a period between 2 and 8 years. The appearance is pale straw yellow, with nuances of antique gold, the nose reveals fruity, with clear floral and fruit scents, the taste is delicately mineral, fresh and elegant.
