Wine description

The Grillo Costadune took its name by the Grillo grapes which are prestigious Sicilian grapes. The grapes are cultivated on the sandy coast characterized by dunes. The proximity to the sea gives structure and softness to the wine together with a mineral taste. The cultivation area is located at south-west of Menfi in the Agrigento province. There are used 100% Grillo grapes which are honored by the Bianco Sicilia DOC certification. The soil is calcareous. The profit is 120 quintals per hectare and the density cultivation is 4500 trees per hectare. The soils are located at 80-200 meters above the sea level and they are exposed at south, south-east. There is a cryomaceration process at very low temperatures at 5-8°C, and it follows the fermentation in stainless steel tanks at 16-18°C. Finally, it takes place the aging period for 3 months in stainless steel tanks at 10°, and then the bottle aging which lasts 3 months.

 

Characteristics of this wine of the Mandrarossa winery

It has a straw yellow color with light and thin green reflections. The smell is intense and vibrating; thanks to the fruity and citrons aromas of Sicily such as the medlar and grapefruit together with the basil aroma. The taste has citron and fruity aromas with a discrete sapid aroma and freshness that make it intense and pleasant.

 

Suggested pairings with the Grillo "Costadune" Sicilia DOC

The Grillo Costadune DOC of Mandrarossa is perfect with the grilled vegetables, the fresh cheeses, the beans soups and the grilled white meats. It has to be served at 12°C in a high and tapered wine glass.
