The IGT denomination guarantees the “Geografica Tipica dei Colli della Toscana Centrale”. The Flaccianello della Pieve is made by 100% Sangiovese grapes. The density of cultivation is 6000 trees per hectare and the cultivation method is the traditional Guyot. There is a first step of spontaneous fermentation on yeasts and the maceration in stainless steel tanks with mechanical pressing and a thermal control for 3 weeks. It follows the malolactic fermentation in barrels and the maturation in Troncais and Allier barrels for 24 months. This is a symbol among the sangiovese chianti label “Flaccianello della Pieve”. This is a very characteristic red wine produced by the Fontodi winery between the most important of the Central Tuscany hills and also among the first “Supertuscan” obtained by pure Sangiovese grapes.
Characteristics of the red Flaccianello della Pieve wine
This sensational red wine comes from a selection of the best grapes and it rests for 2 years in oak barrels. This is a great wine, energetic, dynamic, with powerful citron aromas with a rhythmic and juicy taste. It is the best label of the Fontodi winery and it is produced only in the most favorable years. This permits to taste the entire quality characteristic that it has. It is a red wine perfect to be aged for at least ten years to better taste its strength and elegance. It has a bright and intense ruby red color. The smell is complex and rich with initial floral aromas of violet, currant, marasca cherry, leather, tobacco and cinchona. The taste is warm and elegant, with tannins and a very long end characterized by balsamic aftertaste. It is balanced, with silky and warm sensations.

This fascinating wine can be tasted as meditation wine. It is also perfect with red meat, and game. Perfect with the roe deer with porcini mushrooms sauce. It must be served in a Gran Ballon wine glass to help the oxygenation at 18°C.
