This sensational red wine of the Sagrantino Montefalco is certified with the maximum reward which is the DOCG certification. The Villa Mongalli winery produces this wine with 100% Sagrantino grapes named Pozzo del curato. The Sagrantino “Pozzo del Curato” has an exceptional smell which starts with a grilled hint followed by mixed berries, cigar tobacco and nutmeg. The wine has been also honored by the “Gambero Rosso-Slow Food 2008” where it took 725 points on 1000 of the winner. The cultivation soils are sandy with rocks and they are exposed at south-west and are located at 350-400 meters above the sea level. The profit is 55-60 quintal per hectare. The density is 5000 trees per hectare and they are 10 years old. The harvest takes place in the half of October.
Characteristics of the Montefalco Sagrantino "Pozzo del Curato"
The Pozzo del Curato wine has an intense ruby red color with garnet reflections. The smell is pungent and penetrating, but also charming for its particular intense aroma where you can detect spices, vanilla, aromatic herbs, with a light hint of tobacco. The taste is fruity of blackberry and wood red fruits but also spices. There is also some pepper aroma and the body is structured.
