Franz Haas' Sofi Rosso is a red wine made from a blend of Lagrein and Merlot, grown between approximately 230 and 350 metres above sea level in the hilly areas of South Tyrol. The vineyards are mainly south- and southwest-facing and rely on sandy and porphyritic soils, conditions that favor balanced ripening and good aromatic expression. The grapes of the two varieties are harvested manually and vinified separately. Fermentation takes place exclusively in temperature-controlled steel, so as to preserve the fruit's fragrance and aromatic cleanliness. Once winemaking is complete, the wines are assembled and aged for a few months before bottling.
Characteristics of this South Tyrolean wine
In the chalice it has an intense and bright garnet red colour. On the nose it expresses a fragrant and immediate profile, with notes of ripe red fruit such as cherry and small berries, accompanied by floral hints of purple and light spicy nuances on the finish. In the mouth it is a wine of medium structure, soft and flowing, with delicate and well-integrated tannins. The freshness makes it lively and easily drinkable, while the sip closes on fruity and slightly spicy sensations that lengthen its persistence.
Recommended pairings with this Franz Haas red wine
Sofi Rosso is designed for simple but tasty cuisine. It pairs well with cured meats and earthenware appetizers, flavorful first courses, grilled red meats, and more structured white meat preparations. It also lends itself to traditional Mediterranean dishes, thanks to its versatility and drinkability. The ideal service temperature is between 16 and 18°C.
