The white wine of the Meroi winery, the Pinot Grigio is honored by the DOC certification and it is produced in limited edition of 1800 bottles. The cultivation place is in the west of Friuli in the Buttrio hamlet in the Udine province. This wine is made by 100% Pinot Grigio grapes and the vineyards are exposed at south-east, at 100 meters above the sea level. The cultivation soils are marly and the cultivation method used is the French Guyot. The grape harvest takes place in the second half of September. The fermentation takes place in wood barrels under temperature control for 25 days. There is a refinement period in wood for 10 months and a second passage of 2 months. The clarification and the filtering are made before the bottling.
Characteristics of this Pinot Grigio wine
The Pinot Grigio DOC of the Meroi winery has a straw yellow color with bright green reflections and an opaque ending. It has some lily of the valley, hay, pear and quince aromas. There are some light yogurt tastes coffee aromas too. The taste is balance with fruity, sapid and acid aromas.
Suggested pairings while tasting this white wine
It is perfect with porcini mushrooms soups, risottos and creams with mushrooms and pasta with sardines. It must be served in a renano wine glass with a bell shape. It must be served at 10-12°C.
