Barolo Pira Vecchie Viti from the Piedmont's Roagna Winery owes its name to the historic vineyard from which it originates, namely that of Castiglione Falletto in the heart of the Barolo area. This vineyard was once part of the estate of the noble family and was connected to the castle by a private road. It is a south-east facing vineyard with the largest extension, located in a unique landscape between the Castiglione fortresses and a wood with a small river flowing into the Bussia. In mid-October, the grapes are harvested by hand and in boxes, with very careful selection before vinification. This is followed by fermentation in wooden vats using indigenous yeasts for about 10 days. Maceration using the submerged cap technique takes place for the following two months. Maturation takes place in oak barrels for 5 years and the number of bottles produced for this wine, indicated on the label, is very limited.
Characteristics of this Piedmont wine
On organoleptic examination, it has an intense garnet red colour and an olfactory profile reminiscent of fruit preserved in alcohol and spices. On the palate it is ample, intense and with a remarkable tannic texture.
Suggested food pairings while tasting this red wine from Piedmont
