RATTI
Renato Ratti, a leading figure in the Piedmontese wine scene, was born in 1934. After completing his studies in oenology at the Faculty of Alba, he was sent to Brazil by Cinzano San Paolo, with the task of producing Vermouth and sparkling wines. These years represented for Renato the fulcrum of his training, fundamental for professional growth and for the development of ideas that he will then put into practice upon his return to Italy. Renato returned to Piedmont in 1965, and began to buy a small vineyard of Barolo in the historic cru of Marcenasco, in La Morra, thus beginning the wine adventure as a producer. From 1975 until the end of the 80s the company grew at an encouraging rate, becoming one of the reference productive realities not only at regional level, but even national. Renato in this period holds important positions, - is appointed president of the Consorzio del Barolo and then of the Consorzio dell'Asti -, and is also dedicated to writing, publishing several books on Piedmontese and Italian wines; a prominent figure; which, however, disappeared prematurely in 1988. From this moment it is his son Pietro, a young man just graduated from the wine school of Alba, to take care of the company, which today is spread over an area of about 35 hectares of vineyards; here are cultivated dolcetto, Barbera, Nebbiolo, to which is added a small percentage of Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Every year about 300,000 bottles are produced, divided into 9 labels where, next to the wines traditionally linked to daily consumption, such as Dolcetto d'Alba "Colombè" and the Barbera d'Alba "Battaglione", we find several important expressions of Barolo, among which stand out the "Marcenasco" and the "Rocche dell'Annunziata". Renato Ratti company is always confirmed on excellent levels, and is characterized by labels that, as well as being steeped in history, always represent the territory with great fidelity, paying tribute to Piedmont.
