The vineyard called “Il Glicine” (wisteria) is extended for 1 hectare in the sub-zone Sassella and is elevated 470 meters on the sea level. The lands belong to Sondrio district. The name comes from the wisteria that covers the rocks that dominate the vineyards with its elegance and colour. For the wine making, Fay uses 100% Nebbiolo grapes. This wine becomes its name by the vineyard “Il Glicine”, located in Salssella and south-oriented. It is the plant, indeed, that makes this sandy terrain beautiful. This wine ages for 12 months in barrique and carry out the malolactic fermentation after the first fermentation in steel. We can drink it immediately or we can forget it in the cellar to appreciate, after a few years, its most evolved aromas. It is a product that always deserve to be drunk, for impatient people but also for those who can wait.
Features of red wine Sassella “Il Glicine” produced by the winery Sandro Fay
The organoleptic aspect shows a garnet red colour full of orange reflections. The perfume rich of fruity hints where red fruits and cherry come out, joined to delicate and refined spicy notes. The taste is intense, with a lot of spicy sensations. It is balanced, with important tannins that, nevertheless, aren’t aggressive and harmonize perfectly with the good sourness and its important persistence.
Recommended food pairings while tasting this red wine
This red wine is suggested with roasted red meats. Excellent by the way with aged cheeses like the local “bitto” and game. It has to be served at 18°C in a wide wine glass.
