Wine list | Rosso di Montalcino |
The class of the Il Poggion winery in the wine making process, the respect for the traditional and the passion for the soil and the territory have led to the limited production of this quality wine. It born from an accurate selection among the Rosso di Montalcino barrels done by the same owner of the estate, Mr. Leopoldo Franceschi. The Rosso di Montalcino Leopoldo Franceschi ages in big barrels for 12 months and then also in bottle. The wine is classy and elegant with an intense ruby red color with red berries aromas together with sweet spices. The taste is rich and complex with very good tannins and a long ending. It is made by 100% Sangiovese grapes. The cultivation is located at 150-450 meters above the sea level and there are used the cordon spur pruning or the double arched methods. The picking is manual and the vinification lasts 15 days in stainless steel tanks with indigenes yeasts at 25/28°C. It takes place the malolactic fermentation in steel tanks. The aging lasts 12 months and it takes place in big French oak barrels of 30-50 hl and in barrels of 350 liters followed by an aging period in bottle.
