From the Meroi winery which was founded in 1920 in Friuli, born this Refosco cultivated on the east hills of Friuli in the Buttrio hamlet in the Udine province on marl soils. The soil is located at 140 meters above the sea level and the cultivation method is the French Guyot. The exposition is south, south-east and this wine is honored by the DOC certification and the denomination is Vigna Dominin Refosco DOC. This wine is made with 100% Refosco grapes and the picking takes place from the first to the third week of September. The alcoholic fermentation takes place in a natural way in wooden barrels for 15-20 days under temperature control and it follows the spontaneous malolactic fermentation. The long period of refinement lasts 36 months and the first 24 in wooden barrels and the remaining 12 in bottle without the filtering process.
Characteristics of this Refosco DOC wine
It has a dark red color quite dusty and satin. It has some smells of dark berries and spices of cinnamon, pepper and other oriental ones. The taste is wide with important tannins and a great structure and persistence almost pasty.
Suggested pairings while tasting this red wine
The Vigna Dominin Refosco DOC is bodied, important and structured. It is perfect with grilled meats, game and deer. It must be served at 18°c in a Bordeaux wine glass or in a Grand Ballon wine glass.
