The Masseto wine of Ornellaia , is produced from the grape variety Merlot The estate's finest. 100% purity for the wine of your dreams. The bunches, hand-harvested in 15-kg crates, were hand-selected on a double sorting table before and after destemming, and then gently pressed. Six different lots were vinified separately. Fermentation took place in both stainless steel and wooden tanks, followed by 15-20 days of maceration at a temperature between 25 and 30°C. Malolactic fermentation then took place in 100% new oak barrels, keeping the different lots separate for the first 12 months of maturation. The wine was then blended and returned to the barrels for another year, for a total of 24 months. The wine then ages in bottle for 12 months before being released. Masseto, known as the King of Italian red wines, is a product of the Tuscan hill of the same name, once a marshland, where Merlot vines now grow on unique soils in a particularly favorable microclimate. Add to this the exceptional quality of top wineries—like Tenuta dell'Ornellaia—capable of presenting, in a sort of ideal continuity, the same profile across different vintages, while simultaneously highlighting the vintage's finest characteristics. And so, here is Masseto, the fruit of a vintage that promises to be of the highest caliber, highly drinkable even when young. Manual harvest, bunch selection on a double sorting table (before and after destemming), fermentation in both stainless steel and wood, then two years of ageing in barrique. Nothing else to add: we're talking about the finest Italian Merlot. Because when the King displays his crown, then truly, there's no one left to beat.

An ideal wine to pair with game and venison dishes, it's wonderful with juniper-infused roe deer leg, but like all great wines, it's also wonderful sipping on its own.
