Wine description

The denomination is the most famous in Italy and known throughout the world at the highest levels. Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Vinified with 100% pure Sangiovese grapes. The wine produced from vineyards located at 200, 300 and 450 meters above sea level, with different exposures and on soils rich in skeleton and very poor. The production area is that of Castelnuovo dell'Abate, in the valley of the river Orcia. The training system of the vineyard is spurred cordon. The harvest takes place manually in boxes of 15 to 20 kg, in the second half of September. The yield per hectare is 30 quintals. The grapes are selected several times in the vineyard and a manual selection is carried out in the cellar. Vinification in wooden vats, spontaneous fermentation and very prolonged maceration, with pumping over in the air.Aging in 30 hl oak barrels for 48 months and in bottle for 8 months. The wine is not filtered before bottling.

Characteristics of the Brunello di Montalcino Poggio di Sotto wine

In appearance it has a bright ruby red colour. The aroma is that of the intense scent of red fruit jam standing out against a floral background, supported by a slight spiciness. The taste at the sip relaxes on a good acid shoulder and on biting tannins. A powerful Brunello, from a great vintage, which will find its best balance over time.

Recommended pairings while tasting this excellent Tuscan red wine from the Cantina Poggio di Sotto

Throughout the meal, it goes well with roasted and braised red meats, game and aged cheeses. It has to be served at 18°C in a large wine glass which allows optimal oxygenation.
