BRUGAL

Founded in 1888 by Don Andrés Brugal Montaner, the Brugal Distillery still enjoys the world record in the production of top quality rum. Montaner moved from Cuba to Puerto Plata in the northern part of the Dominican Republic, bringing everything he had learned about the processing of sugar cane for the production of rum: The goal was to create a product that would identify itself with the national identity and whose production phases took place exclusively in the Dominican territory. For all Brugal distillates in fact sugar cane comes from the plantations south of the island, its subsequent processing to obtain molasses and fermentation of the same as the final aging, are all procedures that are carried out within the island itself. In 1920 the first warehouses for aging in oak barrels were built and it was in the same year that Brugal created the first aged rum in the Dominican Republic. Between the 50s and 70s, other leading products of the Distillery were created and in 1981 exports to the United States began: in 1988, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of its foundation, Brugal created the Rum "1888 Siglo de Oro" and soon began exporting to Spain establishing itself as a world leader in the production of rum.
