Berta
The Berta distillery was founded by Paolo and his wife Lidia in the 40s, on the ground floor of their home in Nizza Monferrato: Paolo puts into practice everything he learned during the winemaking school and during the apprenticeship, wisely combined with the care and love for raw materials. In this way he transmits his passion and his knowledge to his sons Gianfranco and Enrico and in 1998 there is the turning point with the birth of Roccanivo, the first Riserva Selection: with the growing success comes the need to expand the distillery and Berta therefore moves to Casalotto, place of origin of the family. In 2015, after Gianfranco's death, SoloPerGian comes to life, a grappa but also an active social project. The production cycle that leads to the birth of Berta products involves a careful selection of raw materials: in fact, only the pomace of wines that are emblematic of the territory is used and in order to guarantee the correct conservation Berta sends special containers to the winemakers, equipped with a valve that maintains the pomace fresh and moist. After the distillation procedure, the grappa must take on the characteristic amber color as well as the olfactory bouquet, therefore it ages in wooden barrels for several years; grappas that require an aging of about a year rest in large Slavonian vats at the Cantina dei Tini, while those that require more years rest in Troncais d'Allier oak tonneaux and are further pampered with classical music and chromotherapy. All Berta cellars are built underground, therefore the optimal temperature is guaranteed in a sustainable way without the use of air conditioners and with a natural ventilation system that guarantees air recirculation.
